247 Student Magazine Analysis

The front cover of this issue of 247 magazine is extremely appealing to a young audience such as students mainly because it has lots of things students like and are interested in on the front cover. The headline on this magazine front cover says ‘free music’ this appeals to the majority of students because nearly all young people these days are into music. And because a lot of students don’t really have much money the words ‘free music’ appeal to them lots because it is something they like and it is for free. There is also a small puff at the top of the magazine stating that it is free which again appeals to students because they do not have much money.
There are a few cover lines down the right hand side of the page which are all related to music telling you different stories about new Dj’s and other music related things which may appeal to you. Across the bottom of the cover there is a list of different things that are covered in this issue of the magazine such as music, style, fashion, culture, clubbing, gigs, film and street art.

Campus Life Magazine Analysis

The masthead Campus Life Magazine is placed at the top of the front cover and is written in bold white/grey font. The words in the masthead are place on the page different some are horizontal and some are vertically placed. The words in the masthead are also different sizes of font. This gives the magazine a sort of casual look and suggests that university is maybe not as full on as some people say it is.
There is a puff on the front cover of this magazine which contains a competition to win an 8GB Zune. This puff is in a large red circle and the colour red has connotations with danger and is a very eye catching colour.
The central image is a picture of a Canadian TV presenter this is very fitting because this magazine is for a Canadian university. Having a picture of George Stroumboulopoulos the presenter of George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight on the front cover of a student magazine will make people wonder why someone so famous is on the front cover of their university magazine.
There is a double page spread for the contents page but one of the two pages is an advert for a mobile phone company offering a special mobile phone plan designed for students. This is very appealing to students because they have a low income and have to do things on a budget. The pictures of Meer cats off the television advert ad a touch of humour to this advert. On the actual contents page part there are pictures of a television star, a popular video game and American football. These pictures draw the reader in because they appeal to a wide range of young people. Underneath these pictures there are several sub categories containing many things university students are interested in such as music, TV, sport, fashion, technology etc.

Research and Planning: Textual Analysis of a Magazine Front Cover

I have decided to analyse a copy of the front cover of Official Xbox Magazine. I have chosen to analyse this magazine because it is mainly aimed at teenagers a similar age to myself that obviously play video games. This magazine is aimed at teenage boys aged 15 to early 20’s. I think is a suitable age range because it most people of these ages that play video games and they are most likely to buy this magazine.
At the very top of the magazine there is a cover line saying ‘ breaking details on the next must-play RPG!’ this appeals to gamers because they will know that an RPG is powerful rocket launcher on many shooting games. This cover line will make them think that there is a new shooting game coming out soon, and if they’re fans of shooting games they might buy the magazine to see what it is and when it will be out. The masthead contains the Xbox logo, which makes this magazine appeal to people with Xbox’s only because if you have a PlayStation you are not going to buy an Xbox magazine. The headline on this magazine says ‘Exclusive! Fallout 3’ most gamers know that the Fallout games are very popular and this will make them want to buy the magazine to read about how this new game will be different from the previous ones. The word exclusive also makes it sound like it is a one off and this will be the only chance you will be able to read about this. The central image is a picture of a character from the game Fallout 3. This is a good central image because if the magazine was on a shelf you might not be able to read the headline but if you can see the picture and you know what the character is from it might make you want to go and see what the article is about. This central image is also good because the character is running away from the explosion behind him and he has a gun these things connote war and fighting which are things linked to the game. The background colours look like an explosion this connotes danger and war. This attracts your attention to the magazine because they are bright colours and it makes you want to see what is going on.
There are three cover lines on this magazine cover and they all appeal to gamers in a big way because they are things related to very popular games or popular things to do with gaming.
There is a plug at the bottom of the page saying that there is a pullout booklet inside that shows you how to customize you controllers this will appeal to lots of gamers because lots of people attempt to do this anyway and they might be interested in how to do it properly.

Introduction To Brief

As part of my AS media coursework, the brief requires me to create the front page, contents and a double page feature spread of a new music magazine. I have created this blog in order to record my research and planning which will help me to produce a successful magazine.
